The BAUHOLDING STRABAG Group unifies its market presence in 2000. The Group appears throughout Europe under the uniform core brand "STRABAG".
In October 2004 the legal form of BAUHOLDING STRABAG AG changes to Societas Europaea (SE), a company structure based on European law, the firm's name has thus now changed to STRABAG SE.
The company operates in all the fields of the construction industry works internationally. As one of the leading providers of construction services in Central- and Eastern Europe, the company employs over 60,000 people at more than 500 locations and attains a building performance (output) of about EUR 11 bn.

STRABAG AG Tunnelkette – Tunnel construction
STRABAG proves its leading role in tunnelling with its major international projects. The recently started M6 Motorway tunnel project is further confirmation of their renowned expertise.
Their technical and organisational know how and extensive experience guarantee the customer the safe and technically-perfect project process. The various tunnel construction methods are applied and perfected to suit the problem. Besides the technical requirements (closed or mining construction method, NÖT = Neue Österreichische Tunnelbauweise, namely the new Austrian tunnel construction method) their Austrian, Croatian and Hungarian mining specialists support their success.
As well as the field of "traditional" tunnel-, gallery- and cavern construction for road, railway and energy they also successfully put their know how in underground railway construction.

1922: Invention of the first bitumen emulsion designed specifically for road surfacing – called Cold Asphalt – that gave Colas its name in 1929.
In 1925, the product is used to build the Montlhéry racetrack.
In 1929, Royal Dutch Shell bought a stake that led to the creation of a subsidiary called "Société routière Colas".
In 1970, Colas took its first foothold in North America with the purchase of Canadian-based Sintra. At the beginning of the 1980s, the acquisition of Grand Travaux de l'Est is the starting point for Colas' diversification into the fields of civil engineering and building.
Backed by its 1200 profit centres in more than 40 countries, Colas operates in the whole sector: with its network of quarries and plants it manufactures aggregates, binders and asphalt mix; its civil engineering activity extends to the road, railway, utility and drain construction as well as the realisation of environment protection investments; it also takes part in building construction and development of signal equipments.
Road construction makes up is 80% of the Group's activity. This sector includes the construction of roads, motorways, airports, race tracks etc. along with major industrial activities.
In 2007, Colas produced: 117 million tons of aggregates, 1.6 million tons of emulsions and binders, 53.8 million tons of asphalt mix.
Other activities: safety, signs, signals, traffic management; civil engineering, pipes, mains, electricity; waterproofing; building; railways; pollution clean-up.
Colas has more than 66,700 employees, half of whom work outside of France.

The presence of COLAS in Hungary started in 1991 with the purchase of Északkő Kft. Within the framework of further investments, ALTERRA Kft. became a member of the group in 1992, EGUT Rt. and DEBMUT Rt. became members in 1996. In order to further increase competitiveness, Hoffmann Rt. and Hoffmann-Gép Kft. joined the COLAS Group in 2005. The six companies are connected with the French COLAS's world-wide family through COLAS Hungary Kft., the direct owner.

In Hungary Magyar Aszfalt Kft. operates as the member of the STRABAG SE.
The name of Magyar Aszfalt Kft. (Hungarian Asphalt) has been known since 1989 in Hungary, the firm – considering its predecessors in title - is the oldest road constructor company in Hungary. As First Hungarian Asphalt Company – as the predecessor in title of Magyar Aszfalt Kft. – was registered in 1864, from 1868 it continued its work by the name of Hungarian Asphalt PC. After the nationalization of 1949 the firm, by the name of Asphalt Road Constructor Company, was one of the most important companies of Hungarian road construction. Then in 1989 by the name of Magyar Aszfalt Kft. it became the Hungarian firm of the Austrian BAUHOLDING AG.
Almost at the same time with the establishing of Magyar Aszfalt Kft., in 1990 with the incorporation of more Traffic Constructing companies - as a result of the privatisation of the Austrian-German STRABAG AG – STRABAG Hungária Constructor PC founded, then after transformation the STRABAG Rt.
In September of 2001 with the fusion of the European building industrial company-groups, being in the interest of the Austrian BAUHOLDING AG and STRABAG AG, in Hungary Magyar Aszfalt Kft. and STRABAG Rt. joined to establish STRABAG Constructor PC. STRABAG PC grew into the biggest building industrial company of Hungary, with the activity both in the field of road construction and civil engineering and both in the sector of structural architecture.
From the 1st of January, 2008 the traffic construction sector of the STRABAG SE in Hungary has continued its activity by the name of Hungarian Asphalt LC. (Magyar Aszfalt Kft.), from the same time the name of the structural architecture sector is STRABAG Structural Architecture and Engineering Establishment (STRABAG Magas és Mérnöki Létesítmények (MML) Kft.).

From 1990 the companies of the Concern have taken part (in different corporate forms) in the construction of M0, M1, M3 and M5 motorways, as well as the realisation of Visegrád- Nagymarosi Complex Land Rehabilitation. In 2007 the international Mecsek Autópálya Konzorcium (Mecsek Motorway Consortium) directed by STRABAG AG won the PPP for planning, constructing, financing and operating of the third section of M6 and M60 (80 km length in Tolna and Baranya counties). Magyar Aszfalt Kft is a subcontractor of Mecsek Autópálya Koncessziós Zrt.

Hungarian Royal State Road-machine Repairing Workshop was formed in 1921. In 1951 the Ministry of Transport and Post established the Public Road Machine Supplier Company to serve the road construction tasks. The State Bridge Maintenance Site was created in 1945 for the reconstruction of the damaged bridges, the iron structural plant of which was joined to the Public Road Machine Supplier Company in 1965. From this plant producing and assembling mainly steel structures the Public Road Machine Supplier Company formed the Közgép-Union Machine and Metal Structure Producing PC in 1994. Its name – regarding the tradition - changed to the present one in 2000.

KONSTRUKTOR-SPLIT was established shortly after World War II (1945) as the first building contractor in the region of Dalmatia, Croatia. During the first year of its operations, Konstruktor was mainly engaged in reconstruction of varied structures damaged in the war including residential, industrial, infrastructure and many other facilities.
Specialization in the construction of hydraulic and civil engineering projects began in the early 1950s, since then 18 hydro-power plants has been raised in Croatia, other republics of ex-Yugoslavia and worldwide.
Involved in the high-rise segment are all types of structures, e.g. residential buildings with appurtenant infrastructure facilities, business and industrial buildings, culture, health and social care-related structures, tourist, sports facilities, etc.
In the last 10-year period, the Company has been widely engaged in the construction of roads and highways, tunnels, bridges and other road facilities as well as water supply and sewerage systems, marine structures and other civil engineering projects.

The three owners of Unitef'83 founded in 1983 the Unitef Cooperative Society. The goal of the founders was to establish an independent engineering office, which suits the growing professional standards regarding the implementation of investment projects. In 1995 the enterprise was transformed by means of share capital increase (originating from own trading results) to a joint-stock company (the shares are 100% owned by the three owners).
Since its foundation, the company has been working on the design engineering establishments and the related technical development. There is a great accent put on activities like design of infrastructural investments – motorways (bridges, tunnels), highways, public utilities (sewerage systems).
Parallel to the expansion of public transport, the planning of the Budapest Subway continued in the past years, and so does the reconstruction of the railway transport, in which projects the company has participated from the beginning. The field of architectural design activity ranges from industrial, public establishments, office buildings, commercial buildings to the design of apartment buildings of diverse size.
Depending on the demands of the clients the company undertakes complex design and planning services, including conceptual design, design documentations to obtain various permits and final construction drawings. The design projects of Unitef'83 Ltd. are spread throughout Hungary and occasionally expand to abroad.
